set,costume and lighting.

One of the first things we decided was to perform on the round, this was to give an intimate feel to the show but also make the audience feel apart of the performance. We wanted a challenge and the idea of the audience being so close to the scared and excited us. Being in the round got rid of a safety barrier that we are used to having like having wings or a backstage. A lot of the shows we do the audience is distant we don't get to see their faces but with our show, we can see everyone. Something that we could have done better was some of the blocking of the scenes even though we tried and most of the show was performed well in the round there was some like the opening and the poem where it was still performed very frontal. We didn't have time to change this but if we had more time we would have directed the opening and change some of the movement to be more suitable for in the round. Our set was very minimalistic and authentic. Brecht believed that the use of probes should be just as important of as the character and that the production should be authentic. We did discuss the use of props and the sheet is the only prop other than the cups at the beginning are used. We treat the sheet like another character I felt, its used multiple times and multiple ways and is used symbolically, either as protective or violently to add to the scene. We originally had the idea of using ties during the teacher scene but we didn't feel that it added anything to the scene and through them irrelevant so the idea was cut.

Brecht believed that lighting should be simple and truthful, no parts of the production are hidden all parts of the show are seen including the stage crew and transitions. This ideal was something we really wanted to keep within our performance. We came up this idea of using fairy lights as the only lighting we had, they represent innocents and comfort the complete opposite of what our show is about. During the tech, we found that they aren't bright enough but we did add a dim light to make all the stage visible. We had no other lighting. We never tried to hide any part of the production, if we had to move the chairs we moved the chairs if we moved the cups we moved them. Even though when we did have to move props we did quickly and effectively it was done obviously.

Costume choices.

While rehearsing we discussed when our costume and new we wanted to be ‘exposed’ and show skin but in an apricot way, The best way we decided was to wear cycling shorts and tank tops. We were all comfortable being dressed like this and we all wore black and bare feet. This was a conscious decision because we change characters so much we felt that having a “costume” wouldn't add anything to our characters and it also meant we were 100% focusing on the acting we were delivering to the audience. Brecht also used minimal costume similar to his ideas on how he used props and set. We took this idea and kept our costumes simple and representational.
